In the late Muromachiperiod, the values of the tea ritual, spearheaded by the Ashikaga Shogunate, were entirely consumed by an obsession with flawless continental porcelain (Karamono) from across the sea.
Unable to obtain the genuine masterpieces, craftsmen who had migrated to Mino recognized the exceptional potential of this destined local clay.
Using this fine earth, their rigorous skill, and the power of fire, they challenged themselves to approach that "celestial brilliance."
It was a poignant craving for beauty harbored by those who possessed nothing.
This very passion, chasing after perfect beauty, became the ignition point that transformed the land of Mino into a sacred sanctuary of ceramics.
